Islam: A religion of peace

After I went to the United States, I knew Islam was everywhere; I never thought that there are lots of mosques everywhere because before I came to the US, I never thought that Islam is spread in the States and actually a respected religion between the Americans, from at least the lovely people I met. Despite the many discussions about Islam in the media and how some people are ignorant about this peaceful religion, I think that Islam is the religion that makes me calm when I’m angry, and makes me happy when I’m sad.

From the beginning of studying at school, I never got tired of listening to hadeeth of my beloved Mohammed the prophet. Since the first grade, schools in Saudi Arabia teaches us about the hadith of prophet Mohammed and also teach us about the Islamic Creed. But most importantly is the Quran. One of the most important courses that must be taught in schools is the Interpretation of the Holy Quran. And not just the interpretation, but also the preservation of the Quran. The preservation of the Quran was one of the best experiences I had in my childhood, although I didn’t preserve the whole Quran, but just the easy first third of the Quran. Now I can’t remember it very much.

Many American students ask me when they know that I’m a Muslim, “How do you not get tired praying five times a day?”. I laugh every time someone asks me that, and my answer to them is that I find peace when I pray. I always tell them that I pray not just because it is mandatory, I pray five times a day to calm myself and also thank god for all the good things that happened to me in my life. I pray because I want to Succeed in the Test. Not the school test, but “The Final test” The test that determines my future in the afterlife. God bless us and everyone who appreciates Islam.
